• He grew up in a Mormon household and lived most of his life in California. He worked as an apprentice at Disney animating cartoons during high school.
• After receiving his MFA, he became a professor. During a leave of absence in New York, he became friends with Willem de Kooning and Franz Kline.
• His work was included in “New Painting of Common Objects,” one of the first exhibitions of Pop Art, with other artists including Andy Warhol and Roy Lichtenstein.
